Kenya Lionesses, the Kenya Women rugby won their second match of the ongoing Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Uganda.
The Dennis Mwanja coached side defeated the hosts 23-03 to claim top position in pool B, the second victory after beating Zambia 36-17 in the opening fixture on Saturday at Wankulukuku Stadium.
The victory propelled Kenya to pool B apex followed by She-Cranes who beat Zambia 36-17.
Following the win, Lionesses have qualified to the 2023 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup Championships after dominating the match.
Anne Goretti touched down first for Kenya and missed a conversion for a 5-0 lead before converting a penalty for 8-0.
Grace Adhiambo’s drop-goal extended the lead to 11-0 before She-Cranes’ Charlotte Mudoola shot past the posts from a penalty to reduce the deficit to 11-3.
But Christabel Lindo added the second try and failed to add extras for a 16-03 lead the Rose Otieno secured the victory with her third try that was converted by Goretti for a 23-03 final whistle.
Lionesses have joined Pool A winners South Africa, Madagascar, who won Pool “C” and Pool “D” winners Burkina Faso in the Championship next year.
