Former Kenya Match Play champion Isaac Makokha recorded his maiden victory by winning the Uhuru Shield title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Royal golf club, Nairobi.
The reigning Deaflympic Games golf bronze medalist edged out former champion John Lejirma in the sudden death play-off in hole 18th for the title after playing identical two over par 218 in the three day 54 hole tournament.
After his maiden victory, Makokha said that it was an amazing event characterized by top skills exhibited at the tournament.
“For the last three days, it was full of skills and top players facing off. I feel great and honoured to emerge the champion of this final event,” said Makokha.
He says that facing off with Lejirma and Adel Balala from Nyali was so spectacular experience he witinessed.
“It was a terrific fight with Lejirma and Balala, who are top players in the series and coming out victorious. For now, I have no plans since the series has come to an end. We wait for the new season next year,” he said.
In the regular play, the dup played identical scores of two under par 70 in the opening round, followed two over par 74 in the second round then completed the third and final round with another tow over 74 for a totle of +2 218 to book for the play-offs.
