Maneno saves KU as Chuka, JKUAT dominate KUSA play-offs

Kenyatta University (KU) goalkeeper Livingston MenEno saved two penalties to guide his team qualify into football semifinals at the ongoing Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) national play-offs at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) grounds.

Following a barren draw in normal time, KU defeated Kabrak University 4-2 in post-match spot kicks to book a slot into the semifinals that will be played on Sunday at the same venue.

KU’s Brian Ogutu said that their target is to play at the final and lift the trophy after battling one of the toughest matches in the whole games.

“Ourt target is to lift this ttitle and we have had a good training as a team. With team work, I know we shall be at the top,” said Ogutu.

The man who plays for 360 FC in the Nairobi West League added that they had good chances but they never utilized hence going into the penalties.

“It was a tough game but we had to fight to the end for such results,” said the alumnus of Orero secondary.  

In field B, Chuka University edged out Strathmore University 2-1 to qualify into the semis. Vincent Ondabu was on target first for Chuka from Central Conference in the 14th minute before Fabian Nzioki doubled in the 32nd minute for a 2-0 lead but Brian Ocampo scored a consolation for Strathmore for a final 2-1 win.

Before going press, two other quarterfinals were almost starting.

In handball, men, hosts defeated Mount Kenya University 18-12, Technial University of Kenya (TUK) beatng Chuka 20-15 and KU winning 25-19 against TUK.

JKUAT and Chuka dominated women categories winning 16-12 and 14-06 against Meru and the University of Eldoret respectively.

Kisii University was on rampage, winning two of their day two opening men volleyball matches. In the opening fixture, Kisii won in straight sets against JKUAT in 12-25, 23-25 and 17-25 before toiling to beat UOE 3-1 in 25-23, 21-25, 17-25 and 19-25. In another morning match, MKU were 3-0 (28-26, 25-20 and 25-22) against JKUAT.

UOE and JKUAT defeated Kisii and Kiriri in women volleyball matches. The hosts battled to a 3-2 win over Kisii in the sets of 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16 and 15-09 while UOE won in straight sets of 2-13, 25-17 and 25-10.

Strathmore and Chuka men dominated the basketball matches in played in court B. Strathmore were too good for Technical University of Mombasa 70-21 after winning all the four quarters in 27-08, 11-05, 14-02 and 18-06. Chukka narrowly beat Kabarak 43-39 in 9-7, 5-11, 16-17 and 13-13.
