Unbeaten Mathare United continued with their superlative performance with their unbeaten run as champions Gor Mahia fell to Kariobangi Sharks again in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) matches played across the country.
The Francis Kimanzi led charges beat Posta Rangers 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten run at Afraha stadium today.
Kevin Kimani grabbed the first goal for the Slum Boys in the 21st minute before Cliff Nyakeya extending the lead Posta Rangers coach Sammy Omollo reduced the deficit by half when Dennis Ongeri netted in the 76th minute but that was not enough as Mathare won maximum points.
Reigning champions Gor Mahia fell, for the second this year to Football Kenya Federation Shield Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks.
First half strike from Duke Abuya ensured that Kariobangi Sharks take all points, with both teams having exited CAF Champions league and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.
Sharks have now gone unbeaten against Gor, eliminating them in the Shield Cup semi’s last season on their way to lifting the trophy and producing a similar 1-0 win earlier this month as they began the campaign with victory in the Super Cup.
The win which also keeps William Muluya’s side unbeaten in the league, moves them up to third on the standings with eight points while Gor remain in 13th place barring other results with three points, garnered from their 4-0 thrashing of Zoo FC on match day two.
Hassan Oktay’s charges do have a game in hand though as they have played three games.
2009 champions Sofapaka played to a 2-2 draw against Ulinzi Stars at Afraha Stadium.
Dennis Omino scored first for Sofapaka in the 30th minute for a 1-0 halftime lead but Enos Ochieng’s brace saved the soldiers as John Avire equalized for Sofapaka.
AFC Leopards failed again to gain maximum points against a troubled Vihiga United at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, with the match ending in a barren draw as Western Stima played to a one all draw against hosts Bandari at the Mbaraki Sports Club.
Wycliffe Ochome scored for Bandari but Kevin Okongo cancelled out to share the points.
2016 champions Tusker defeated newly promoted side Commercial Bank (KCB) FC to extend the bankers’ woes with a 3-1 at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
Lloyd Wahome scored first for Tusker in the 7th minute before KCB’s Simon Abuko restored parity on 16th minute.
On 48th minute, Sydney Ochieng gave Tusker the lead again with a header before Otieno ensured that the Brewers closed the year on a high after he rose highest and nodded home Kevin “Ade” Omondi’s waited cross with a quarter an hour remaining on the clock.
KCB remain winless after losing their first two games and drawing 1-1 with Bandari last weekend.
At the Green Stadium in Awendo, hosts Sony Sugar came from a goal down to defeat Zoo FC 2-1 and secure back to back wins following their 1-0 win over Vihiga United last time out.
Danson Chetambe had given the visitors the lead in the third minute but Sony rallied through Derrick Otanga and Stephen Onyango to secure the win and move up to seventh on the log barring other results.
