Mbugua wins Mombasa Scrabble Kenya title on first return

Returning into the game after five years, Nicholas Mbugua won in his first tournament during the National Scrabble Kenya tournament play at the Mbaraki Sports ground in Mombasa.

The experienced Mbugua, who last played in 2019 recorded 13 wins and five loses in the 18 game matches in the two day event.

“The game was too difficult after being out of competitions since 2019 but I had to use my experience to win because when I was playing I used to win,” said Mbugua.

He added that when he went to sleep on Saturday night, he was plotting on how to execute the winning formula which on Sunday worked in his favour.

“The tournament was too difficult but once the I gained ,momentum, all started flowing. When I went to sleep on Saturday, I had to think on how I was going to win the game and it worked for me,” he said.
