Reigning Fukuoka marathon champion Michael Githae won the first medal for Kenya at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England today.
Gitahe, who replaced Simon Kacheran over doping suspension won bronze behind Ugandan Victor Kiplangat who won gold with Tanzanian Felix Sambu settling for silver in an all East Africa Community podium sweep.
Kiplangat won the title in 2:10.55 with Sambu coming second at 2:12.29 and Githae’s 2:13.16
another Kenyan Jonathan Korir was 5th in 2:14.06 with Australian Liam Adams in between them at 2:13.23.
