Olympian Mary Moraa will be the centre of attraction at the weekend’s second leg of Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross country championships that will be held in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Moraa, the world under 18 400m silver medalist will be setting the pace for other athletes, both elite and untested ahead of world cross country tour.
The county Athletics Kenya secretary Boniface Tiren said that they are expecting over 1,000 athletes because of the nature of the county.
“This is the county that has produced top runners and an event will be coming home to its owners. This day will be great among the locals as well as internationals who train here,” said Tiren who also serves as the Public Relations Officer for the North Rift Region.
The event will attract seven events; will include 10km senior men and women, 8km junior men, 6km junior women, 5km under 18 women and 6km under 18 men and mixed relays.
“It will be a busy day for us as organizers but we are well prepared because this is a national event, expecting elite and young athletes to compete on the same level ground,” added Tiren.
