Muigua to defend Sigona Bowl title as KAGC series tees off at Sigona

Kiambu golfer Elvis Muigua will be on card to defend Sigona Bowl, the opening leg of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) set to tee off tomorrow at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club.

The three tournament that tees off will come to an end on Sunday will be joined by former champion Michael Karanga, Lejirma, Nyali’s Adel Balala, Vetlab pair of Ebill Omollo and Krish Beiju, Josphat Rono from Golf park and Sammy Mulama among others.

The tournament, which attracted 186 players had registered for the Sigona Bowl, but only 156 will compete in accordance with the terms of the competition. The event has attracted a diverse field of players, including participants from golf clubs across Kenya, as well as international golfers from Tanzania, China, Great Britain, Rwanda, and Uganda.

“The Sigona Bowl is an iconic event on our calendar, and we’re excited to kick off the 2025 KAGC season with it. We are immensely grateful to NCBA for their continued support of amateur golf in Kenya. Their Ksh 6 million sponsorship for 2025 plays a vital role in elevating the game and providing a platform for both local and international players to showcase their talent.” said Mr. David Ndung’u, Chairman of the Kenya Golf Union.

The 54-hole stroke play Championship will take place over 3 days. All players will compete in the first two rounds, after which the top 33 players, along with ties, will make the cut to advance to the final round on Sunday. The total prize pool is set at Ksh 450,000, with the winner receiving Ksh 104,000. This event is both a WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) and KAGC ranking event, offering players local and international recognition and an opportunity to measure their performance on the global amateur golf stage
