Nasokol and St Joseph’s Boys (JOBO) were crowned the Rift Valley Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) football champions in girla and boys respectively played yesterday at Hill School grounds, Eldoret Uasin Gishu County.
Coming into the championships as small fish, Nasokol were the surprise winners in the football girls after edging out favourites Itigo Girls.
The West Pokot based school were 2-1 winners at the finals to earn a slot for the finals under the tutelage of Lydia Nekesa und captain Naomi Mokeira.
“We are going to improve on some mistakes as we head to the nationals,” Said Nekesa.
Coming from Trans Nzoia County, JOBO were 1-0 winners against St Francis Boys High School Kimuron of Elgeyo Marakwet County to book for national championships that will be staged in Mumias, Kakamega County next month.
Instin Simiyu scored the solitary goal in the 87th minute to guide St Joseph’s to retain their title with captain Charles Ochieng saying the squad was determined to improve on last year’s performance, promising a better showing at the nationals.
“Last year we lost narrowly but this time round we are going to our best and secure the title,” said Ochieng.
Coached by Amos Juma Wanda, the school will be seeking their maiden national title when the championships starts on July 28th to August 2nd.
Bwake boys and St Joseph’s Girls were rugby 7s champions for boys and girls. Bwake edged out Laiser 19-17 while JOGA were 26-7 winners over Itigo.
Volleyball queens and kings Kesogon girls and Cheptil boys retained their titles while St Joseph’s girls went ahead to win netball title.
