Nderitu chasing 6th Scrabble Kenya title in Machakos

Top seed Nderitu Gitonga will be chasing his sixth title in a row as top scrabble players descend to Machakos for the 6th leg of Scrabble Kenya Championships at Machakos University Hotel this weekend.

Gitonga was instrumental, anchored the Word Warriors, the national scrabble team to defend their East, Central and Southern Scrabble Championships (ECASA) in Zambia in April.

“The competition in Machakos will be stiffer than in the past tournaments because of the players who will be competing over the weekend,” said Gitonga.

He said that the dictionary has what each scrabble players need to succeed in his career.

“For now am reading and practicing some new words from the dictionary so that when the tournament kicks off, I have a good information on what is needed and understand the language of scrabble. From this, we will be able to play well in Goa,” added Kirinyaga based.

He said players like Patrick Litunya on home ground together with his Machakos team.

The tournament has attracted top Scrabble Kenya players across the country to try and make a cut into the national team.

The two day event will involve players competing in 18 games in the Intermediate and Premier divisions while 16 games will be played in the Open.
