Athletics Kenya has announced that there will be no extension on registration for the athletes set to compete at the third edition of the Great Chepsaita Run, set for December 6th.
The federation under president Jack Tuwei today announced that the registration process for the race was closed yesterday.
Speaking during his tour of the race course, Tuwei confirmed that the registration window for elite athletes closed yesterday, November 15th, 2025, exactly 21 days before race day. He emphasized that the early closure aligns with international competition requirements.
“This is a gold label event that we don’t want to mess with. All rules must be followed to the letter because we cannot bend them to suit Kenya’s last-minute rush. Rules apply worldwide, and the world is watching what we are doing as a federation and as a nation,” said Tuwei.
He added that the gold label status comes with strict regulations that Athletics Kenya must observe. The remaining process now involves verifying and clearing all registered athletes to avoid any technical issues.
“By tomorrow, we shall review the number of registered athletes in each category. The world is moving very fast in terms of technology, and we don’t want to be left behind. We must maintain our gold label status and improve further. We want all our events to be properly handled to avoid negative points,” he explained.
Tuwei also revealed that the Under-20 boys category had attracted the highest turnout, with 1,600 athletes registered ahead of the upcoming verification exercise.
