Godfrey Nsubuga won his maiden Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) title on Sunday at the Tea Fields trophy at the par 72 Kericho golf club.
Coming from Mehta golf club, Nsubua won the title with his three over par 219 for the title won last year by fellow Ugandan Michael Alunga.
On his final round three, he managed to fire three over 75 with his round two lead with two under par 70 and round one two over par 74 to claim the title.
He edged out KAGC defending champion John Lejrima, who was round one leader with one over par 73.
He said that he has been finishing second in many series across the country but Kericho victory has propelled him to seek for another victory on the kenyan soil at the Nandi Bears Shield.
He added that he had a game plan on how he should secure match needed win which worked well for him.
“The tournament was good and the course was so playable. However, in round one, I had challenges in putting because of some grass on the greens but the second and third round, the greens were fantastic that is why I played very well in the two finals rounds,” added nsubuga.
With the victory, he says that he has set his focus to record good scores at the Nandi Shield at the par 72 Nandi Bears golf club.
“This is done and my focus now turns to Nandi Shield next weekend. I hope to replicate the same,
“ he said.
