Obiri, Kipruto, Kasait to light up Prefontaine Classic

All Africa Games 10,000m champion Alice Aprot and reigning Olympic 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri will headline a titanic race in this weekend’s Prefontaine Classic, the third meeting of IAAF Diamond League in Eugene, U..S.A.

The two day event will see Aprot, Obiri face off in 5,000m alongside reigning world cross country bronze medalist Lilian Kasait and Margaret Chelimo.

Obiri, the 2016 world champion in 5,000m won the 5,000m all Diamond League title as the trio will fight to beat Ethiopian world 1,500m record holder Genzebe Dibaba and Dutch international Sifan Hassan.

Former commonwealth 3,000m steeplechase champion Jairus Birech will renew his rivalry against reigning Commonwealth champion Conseslas Kipruto together with veteran runner Paul Kipsiele Koech, Benjamin Kigen, Nicholas Bett, and Amos Kirui in conquering 3,000m steeplechase titles.

2013 world 800m champion Eunice Sum will have a date with South African Caster Semenya and Margaret Nyairera Wambui in the 800m race while Winny Chebet, Beatrice Chepkoech and Mary Kuria will be in action, competing in women’s 1,500m women.

Former world youth 800m champion Kipyegon Bett will be fighting for his place in his favourite two lap race against Kenyan Emmanuel Korir in the land of fortunes.
