Over 500 pupils converged at the Hill School, Eldoret to compete at the Making Champions of tomorrow.
The program run by the Ministry of Sports in conjunction with Sports federations are touring across the country in search of talents that will represent the country in future.
The programme launched by Sports Cabinet secretary Dr Amina Mohammed in July is targeting to reach over 6000 school going children aged 8-16 years for future sporting country.
The program include rugby, football, basketball, volleyball and athletics track and field events where the primary pupils used the opportunity to discover their talents at a tender age.
Golazo Sports Marketing Officer Jimmy Geeraerts said that the kids’ initiative is to prepare them for greater activities in future and compete in various disciplines.
“This is a nationwide programme by the ministry of sports giving kids a chance to shine in sports. The initiate is to ensure that they gain experience in different sporting activities.” Said Geeraerts.
With day one done with primary schools, day two Monday (today) will be for the secondary schools at the same venue before heading to kericho County and Nakuru.
“In each town or city we spend two days, one day for primary school children and the second day is for high school children.” Said Geeraerts.
He said that working with Kids between the age of 8-16 is a good idea to give a chance to all kids to try all these sports.
“We are working closely with ministry of education, who have selected for us schools and we are working in every town or city with 10 schools a day. Each school send a group of 50.” Said Geeraerts.
He said they are targeting kids to enjoy themselves, to discover various sports and also coaches to discover new talents.
