Power lifter Hellen Wawira won Kenya the first out of track bronze medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
Wawira clinched the bronze medal today in women’s 97kg edging out Manpreet Kaur who couldn’t go beyond 88kg after she successfully lifted 95km before toping 97kg where she also lifted with ease.
Coached by David Omondi, she had a third attempt was on 99kg but she couldn’t successfully take it off and she finished off with a mean weight of 98.5kg.
Gold medal was won by England Zoe Newson and compatriot Olivia Broome took gold and silver with an average of 102.2 and 100.0 respectively
