Two time Toronto marathon champion Philemon Rono will be facing off for the first time at the Valencia Marathon set for 6th December 2020 in Spain.
Rono, who started his running career as a pacesetter has been sharpening his skills ahead of the race that has attracted top athletes from across the world with Kenya commanding the majority.
After missing to compete at the Boston marathon due to coronavirus pandemic, Rono said he started his training after returning to the camp to secure good results once he lines up at the Valencia marathon.
“I have not competed this year after Toronto and this chance came by chance and I have to secure good results because my fitness is on top gear,” said Rono in Kaptagat.
Popularly called the Small Police in athletics cycles, won the Toronto marathon in 2017 before losing the title to Benson Kipruto in 2018 but reclaimed his title in 2019.
“When coronavirus hit the world, I was preparing for Boston but that did not happen when the world was locked up. Now that I have a chance, I have to prove my worth. I have had good training and that will secure good time,” added Rono.
