Nandi Bears Golfer David Rotich won the Syngenta golf tournament played today on nine hole Eldoret Golf Club.
Playing off handicap 19, Rotich fired 62 Nett for the title after carding 81 gross in the golf series that attracted 69 golfers drawn from Kakamega, Karen, Nandi Bears and the hosts Eldoret.
After staying out of competition for two years after he was involved in the motorcycle accident way back in 2016, Rotich was the surprise winner equating to his win due to the consistence and fighting for better results.
He said that his win came because if any players enters into a competition will always want to win but the other happens otherwise.
“At any point you enter any competition, it is expected that you win, that is why it is called a competition. I came with much expectations and that have been full filled,” said Rotich.
Despite his ball rolling into the river two times, he managed to hole out with a double bogey in holes 12 and 14. He started well with a par before dropping one in 2, 3 and 4, recovered with a par dropped two in 6th before he parred in 7th, 8th and 9th for a total of 40 gross and 30 nett in the opening nine.
“My preparations were good and it has been long since I won a tournament. I have always been coming here to play and the day of blessings descended upon me,” said Rotich.
In the second nine was a nightmare for the player after he parred in the first and second, dropped two in 12th and 15th when he drove his ball into river Sisian and parred in 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th for the title.
“This was the most challenging tournament and emerging the winner was a blessing, registering the first win since 2016,” he said.
Kiptoo Koros and Tom Mutei were the first and second nine winners on 30 and 31 nett while Karen’s Ann Mwebi won the staff prize.
Kennedy Serem won the nearest to the pin prize as Kimutai Saina and Mani Sagoo were the longest drive men and ladies respectively.
In the Mug of Mugs that marks the two years of captain Geoffrey Kitiwa, Sahil Aggarwal won the title on 64 nett beating Virginia Mutei with a shot on 65 nett while Mary Karoney and Kiptoo Koros were in third and 4th positons with 65 and 67 respectively.
