Limuru Country club’s John Karichu defended his Sigona Bowl title outshining Nyali Golf club’s Daniel Nduva in Sudden Death play off during the opener of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) at Sigona Golf club today.
Karichu won the title against Nduva on the second hole of sudden death playoff with the two leading amateur tying on five over 221 on the par 72 golf course on regular play.
The tie prompted the golfers to a play off and they parred on the first hole of the pay-off but Karichu parred on the second hole as Nduva played one over to give a win to Karichu in the season opener.
All amateur golfers played 54 holes on the two day event, starting with two rounds of 18 holes on Saturday and ending with 18 today and arichu had posted four over par 76 to bring his score to 221, while Nduva had fired level par 72.
Dennis Saikwa from Royal club was third on 223 points Saikwa’s club-mate, Jay Sandhu took the first round gross on 74, while the second and third rounds went to Peter Rimui and Samuel Njoroge of Railway.
The second leg of the 19-event Kenya Amateur Golf Championship series will be the Mt Kenya Championship at Nyeri Golf Club on February 3 and 4.
