Sixteen pool players selected to fly Kenyan flag at All Africa Pool Championships

The Kenya Pool and Billiards Federation (KPBF) has named sixteen players that will represent the nation at the All Africa Pool Championships set for Durban, South Africa next month.

With eight men and women, the national team is expected to fly the Kenyan flag at the continental showpiece that will run from February 2nd to 8th 2026.

The team was selected following National Team Selection Trials held on January 3rd and 4th at Mchana Pub and Grill. The trials brought together the country’s top male and female players in a competitive, transparent, and merit-based process aimed at identifying athletes best prepared to compete at continental level in the blackball category.

After two days of intense competition, KPBF selected six men and six women to form Team Kenya, with additional standby players named to strengthen the national squad structure.

In the men’s team, Collins Tuwei, Jackson Kariuki, Patrick Mwangi, Noah Esekon, David Njane, and Fahad Farah earned selection, while Cyrus Maina and Samuel Karuru were named as standby players.

The ladies’ team comprises Peninarose Njoki, Jacky Githinji, Wairi Wairegi, Diana Macharia, Naomi Ng’ang’a, and Patricia Keruche. Doreen Wandia and Stella Kamanthe were named as standby players.

KPBF says the quality of competition witnessed during the trials reflects the rapid growth of pool in Kenya, both at grassroots and national levels, despite long-standing challenges related to funding and sponsorship.

Team Kenya heads into the championships with renewed confidence, buoyed by strong recent performances in regional and international tournaments across East and Southern Africa. The federation notes that players have maintained intensive training schedules and gained valuable exposure through competitions in countries such as South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The federation has confirmed that Kenya will field full men’s and ladies’ teams, alongside competitors in individual categories, and is intensifying efforts to secure funding to ensure the team’s participation in the Durban championships.

KPBF has expressed optimism that Team Kenya will compete with pride, professionalism, and determination, as the country seeks to make a strong impression at Africa’s premier pool championship.
