Fatuma Zarika is the December winner of StarTimes/SJAK Sports Personality of the month.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Bantamweight champion has started a new year in style, as the first sports person to win the award in 2018.
Zarika was bestowed Head of State Commendation (HSC) honour by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Jamhuri Day last year.
At 34, Zarika said she was confident of retaining her title once again.
Following her success in 2017, Zarika was was voted by a panel of journalists, under the umbrella of Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) when she successful defended her title against Zambian Catherine Phiri on December 2 in Nairobi.
She scored 97-92, 98-91 and 99-92 from the three international judges who presided over the fight.
The victory in front of an adoring home support extended her record to 29-12-2, of which 17 have been via knock-outs.
Apart from the StarTime 42 Inch digital Tv set, she received kshs 100,000 beating chess ace, Joyce Nyaruai, and Safari rally speedster, Carl Tundo, to be the sixth recipient of the award.
