Kenya’s Sports Council was dealt a blow after the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) nullified their elections held last December in Nairobi.
According to the ruling, three top officials led by the chairman Nderitu Gikaria, vice chairman Varaj Sarvaiya and treasurer Charles Nyabei were not eligible to vie as they had already served their two term limits as per the Sports Act in a case field by Mary Muiruki.
The panel headed by Njeri Onyango ruled that were not eligible to contest as they had already served the mandatory two terms.
But in their defence, the council argued that its top officials were eligible to contest as they had been elected for their first term in 2018 though they had been in office since 2010.
The council has been ordered to conduct fresh elections within 60 days and has barred its top three officials from contesting for the same positions
