Strathmore Leos face Blak Blad at KUSA7s final

Strathmore University rugby7s team- The Leos will be chasing their first Main Cup title when they play Kenyatta University (KU) Blak Blad in the Main Cup final of Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) rugby sevens. 

With the overall title set to be announced today, Strathmore will play the overall title defending champions KU to determine the champion at the Nairobi University ground.

In the Semifinal match, The Leos upset hosts The University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine 19-15 to wait the KU who trounced Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) 24-14.

Nick Mutura won the first try for hosts that Valentine Mulongo failing to convert for a 5-0 lead but Brian Aluke converted Barnabas Owuor’s try to lead. Ian Bulali extended Leos’ lead with a try that Aluke failed to convert for a 12-05 lead.

Mutura made two fast tries was on target for Machine with Masai failing to convert but Andrew Matoka went past the try line to give The Leos the lead before Alukwe converting for a 19-15 win.

In the second semifinal, KU toiled hard to beat championships favourite MMUST 24-14. Mubarak Ecikindy converted his try in the 4th minute with Marshall Mutai adding the second that Lionel Agilit failed to convert for a 12-0 lead as Ted Okal went past the try line for the third try that Agilit again failed to convert to lead 17-0 in the water break.

On resumption, Agiliti was on target and converting his try for A 24-0 lead but Joseph Murefu was awarded a penalty try to reduce the score to 24-07 and Isaiah Mulongo converted his try for a 24-14 win.
