Top guns set to blaze in Eldoret meeting

Top and untested runners will be pout to test at the 4th leg of Athletics Kenya Track and Field events to be staged at the University of Eldoret (UOE) ground.

Eldoret meeting, which comes first after two weeks of Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia will be a litmus test for budding and world known runners who will seeking for a slot at the Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) Championships to be staged in Assaba, Nigeria in August 2018.

The meeting will be staged at UOE pavilion away from the troubled Kipchoge Keino tartan stadium which has been under construction with questions raised over when the facility will be ready for use.

Hosted by Central Rift region Athletics Kenya, the event has been one of the biggest across all the regions in the country.

The two-day meeting kicks off on Friday culminating on Saturday before heading to Western region’s Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega County in a week’s time.

All track and field events will culminate at the national Athletics championships -cum national trials for the Africa Senior bonanza on July 5-7.

according to region’s Kennedy Tanui, the will attract many athletes after conclusion of Commonwealth Games.

Many of our athletes have not been in competition for a while and we are expecting a large turn out,” Said Tanui.

As an epicentre of athletics, Eldoret everybody will be willing to attend.

Due to bad weather (rainy) we will have to prepare a program that will make sure all events end by 2ppm so that we do not get delayed by rain since the field is ready,” added Tanui.
