Why is Kenneth Kipkemoi missing at Sydney marathon?

Former Rotterdam marathon champion Kenneth Kipkemoi’s name was unceremoniously deleted from elite athletes set to compete at Sunday’s Sydney Marathon.

With the race set for Sunday August 31st 2025 at 6:30am in Sydney, Australia, East African time will be on Saturday August 30th 2025 at 22:30pm.

Following its elevation to platinum level, joining the World Marathon Majors like Tokyo, London, Boston, New York, Berlin and Chicago marathons this year, the removal of Kenneth Kipkemoi from the competing athletes remains a riddle for many to answer.

On Thursday evening, World Athletics had published the names of both elite men and women for the race but come Friday morning, Kipkemoi’s name had been removed from competitors.

When Kipkemoi was contacted on Friday afternoon by https://dailysport.co.ke/ to explain his missing name, he responded “I DON’T KNOW.’ And disconnected our call.

The answer was not satisfying as at that time, he should on his was to Sydney he has already landed ready for competition.

Kipkemoi was the 7th top male athlete at the starting line up that starts with former world marathon and Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge (2:01:09), Ethiopian Birhanu Legese (2:02:48), Kenya’s Vincent Ngetich (2:03:13), Ethiopian Dawit Wolde (2:03:48), another Kenyan Bernard Koech (2:04:09), Ethiopian Hailemaryam Kiros (2:04:35) and Kipkemoi’s 2:04:52.
