Former Kenya Amateur Strokeplay champion William Odek edged out series leader John Lejirma on sudden death play-off to claim the Nyali Open title, the final leg of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) that came to an end today at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa county.
Playing on home turf, Odek outplayed Lejirma in the playoff after they had fired four over par 217 in the three day championships and they had to face off in the play off to determine the winner of the event.
In the first hole 13, they all played pars, on 13th, birdied in 2 and 18 before Odek, taking home advantage, shot a birdie in 4 to seal the title against Lejirma’s par.
The three day 54-hole stroke-play championship did not hand Lejirma a chance to defend his title but reclaimed the overall KAGC crown.
In round one on Friday, the champion fired level par 71 while Royal club’s Lejirma managed one over 72 followed by round two and three on Saturday and Sunday, Odeck rolled in identical two over 73 while Lejirma managed one and two overs to tie.
