20 teams to battle for KPC@50 volleyball titles

The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) volleyball Cup has attracted 20 teams at the “KPC@50 Volleyball Extravaganza” set for next month.

The tournament, which serves off on April 5-7 at Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums, has attracted 12 teams for men and eight for the women.

According to the draw released by Kenya Volleyball Federation, KPA, Trailblazers, Postbank and Nairobi Prisons in Pool A as pool ‘B’ will have GSU, Equity and Kenya Army. Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Forest Service and Prisons Nairobi in Pool ‘C’ and Pool ‘D’ has Kenya Prisons, Administration Police and KAPU.

The women’s edition will feature Kenya Pipeline, DCI, Post Bank, Nairobi Prisons, KCB, Kenya Prisons, KDF, Maranatha and Kenya Army.

The women’s tournament has eight teams with Kenya Pipeline, DCI, Postbank and Nairobi Prisons in Pool ‘A’.

 KCB, Kenya Prisons, Maranatha and KDF are in Pool ‘B’.  

The tournament will feature exhibition matches for high school teams featuring Kwanthanze and Soweto (girls) and Hospital Hill and Rumuruthi (boys).

There will also be a tournament for the deaf, featuring 22 players — men and women. Legends aged 40 and above will also take to the courts in exhibition contests.

On Tuesday, Kenya Pipeline Company donated Sh1.3m for organising the tournament and cash prizes.

Winning teams will pocket Sh 100,000 each while the runners-up will take home Sh75,000.

KVF chairperson Charles Nyaberi commended KPC for their continued support for over four decades.

“KPC has been dependable for over 40 years. Their commitment to developing volleyball from the grassroots has been tremendous. This tournament will inspire future stars as we grow the game together,” said Nyaberi.
