Elgeyo Marakwet county government has honoured long serving athletics Coach Brother Colm O’Connell by naming one of the Iten’s street under his name.
Arriving in the country 42 years ago, Colm has been training many Kenyan runners who have conquered the world that includes reigning world 800m record holder David Rudisha.
Christened as Home of Champions, Iten’s street, O’Connell bears a similarity with a street in Dublin, Ireland where Bro Colm hails from.
According to O’Connell, the naming of the street that leads to St Patrick’s Boys High School Iten where he has been living since he set foot in Kenya in 1976.
He served as headmaster of St Patrick’s School in Iten, where he lives with the Patrician Brothers.
