Lacrosse Kenya names junior provisional team

Kenya Lacrosse Association (KLA) has selected a provisional team of 18 players that will compete at this year’s World under 19 Lacrosse Championships in Vancouver, Canada in August.

The girls, which are mainly in secondary schools, will be having their first outing since the introduction of the sport in the country following a massive recruitment exercise across the country.

According to one of the coaches Moses Muge from Moi Girls Eldoret, the provisional team went will be joining the camp so that they can come up with a formidable team to represent the nation.

“We selected them from different schools, we subjected them in the camp for ten days of serious training and playing friendly matches against each other before coming up with the squad,” said Muga.

He added that the selected squad will be crucial to them because in two years time, they will be using the same squad for the world senior Lacrosse championships.

“After August under 19 championships, we will be preparing for world Lacrosse women championships and we want tom use this team. If we maintain such players, they will be the best once they join senior team,” added Muge.

He added that they are working closely with the ministry of education to see how the team will be traveling.

“Majority of the players are school  girls and we have to work according to the school programme. Luckily, the championships comes after schools have closed. At the same time, after they finish high school, we want to maintain them as we plan to start a boys category came next year,” he explained.
