Rotich, Moraa sparkle at AK relays

World 800m bronze medalist Ferguson Rotich and world under 18 400m silver medalist sparkled at the third and final leg of Athletics Kenya Relay Series at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Rotich defeated reigning Commonwealth 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal to win the men’s 800m while Moraa won the 400m beating Gladys Musyoki for the title ahead of national World Relay Championships cum national trials on March 26 to 27 at Nyayo National Stadium to select the team for World Relays on May 1 to 2 in Silesia, Poland.

Rotich won in 1:45.64 followed by Kinyamal in 1:46.09 and Abel Kipsang in third position timing 1:46.36 as former Africa Junior 800m silver medallist Jeremiah Mutai came in 4th position clocking 1:47.27.

In the first heat, Jonathan Kitilit clocked 1:48.90 ahead of Leny Lokitash (1:49.69) while Kipng’etich Ng’eno claimed the third in 1:47.54.

After finishing second in 800m, Moraa recovered well to triumph in 400m race.

Moraa (2:04.32) who finished behind Winny Chebet (2:03.72)  and Mueni Karimi (2:04.32) went ahead to win the 400m 52.63 beating Musyoki (54.65), Anne Mbatha (55.52) and Sylvia Chesebe in 55.60.

As Moraa shone in women’s race, Zablon Ekwam took the honours in men’s race in 45.97 as Emmanuel Mutua and William Ryan came in second and third in 46.35 and 46.63 respectively.
