Relegation bound Nairobi City Stars were the surprise winners against defending champions Gor Mahia in today’s Kenya Premier League match played at the Dandora stadium, Nairobi.
At the same venue, Kariobangi Sharks edged out KCB 1-0.
With both Kenya Police and Tusker losing yesterday to Kakamega Homeboyz and FC Talanta respectively, Gor was favourite to take to the summit of the table before losing 2-1 to struggling Nairobi City Stars.
The winners took the lead through Hansel Ochieng in the 5th minute before Benson Omala leveled in the 9th minute but Vincent Owino converted from the spot in the 17th minute to seal the win.
The victory handed City a lifeline, to move from position botton of the table to 17th with 30 points, relegating Bidco United to position 18.
With the loss, Gor remained third on 53 points with a game in hand against AFC Leopards while Police leads with 58 points as former champions Tusker are second on 55 points. Both Police and Tusker have played 31 matches out of 34.
Sharks inflicted KCB with the 4th consecutive loss with the solitary goal scored by Humphrey Aroko.
The win for Sharks moves them to 12th position on 36 points as the bankers remains 7th on 41 points with all two teams playing 31 matches.
