Shabana, Bidco, Ulinzi record wins in the KPL openers

Shabana, Bidco United and former champions Ulinzi Stars were the winners in their opening matches of the Kenya Premier League matches played across the country.

At the Kasarani stadium, Bidco United lacked respect for multiple champions Gor Mahia, winning 1-0 against their hosts.

Bidco scored the solitary goal for a 1-0 win against Gor, courtesy of Newton Ochieng who converted from the spot after George Amonno fouled John Kelwish Walubuka into the box.

It was a bad day for the new Gor coach Charles Akonnor while Bidco coach Anthony Akhulia celebrated in the other corner.

At the Gusii stadium in Kisii, Shabana humiliated newcomers APS Bomet 4-2 to in the ne neibhours party.

Following their promotion into the KPL, Bomet received baptism of fire under the hands of Shabana with Brian Michira netted the opener in the 10th minute before  doubling from the spot when Evans Maliachi handled the ball in the box for 2-0.

Dalphine Omuri made it 3-0 and Bob Cedrick converted from the spot to hand Bomet 3-1 after defender handling the ball in the area as they went into break 3-1.

On resumption, Hansel Ochieng scored the second goal for Bomet based Police for 3-2 but Shabana’s Derrick Otieno fired the 4th goal for the homeside for a 4-2 win.

Former champions Ulinzi Stars defeated their hosts Murang’a Seal by a solitary goal scored by Paul Okoth at the St Sebastian Park in Murang’a County.

Yesterday, AFC Leopards, 2009 champions Sofapaka and Bandari played out to a draw. At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Leopards played to a 1-1 draw while Bandari were held to a barren draw against Kariobangi Sharks.

Sofapaka scored first through Djafari Satala in the 5th minute for a 1-0 lead but Boniface Munyendo level for Leopards in the 17th minute as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

At the Kasarani Annex, Sharks managed to contain the visiting Bandari FC to a 0-0 draw.

On Friday, KCB beat former champions Tusker 2-0 at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
