Reigning Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala recorded another big win in today’s Xiamen Diamond League in China.
The Africa 100m record holder continued his impressive sub-10, winning the second Diamond league series title at 9.94 seconds by edging out a star field made up of Gift Leotlela, Kenny Bednarek, and Letsile Tebogo.
He recorded his 5th sub-10 by leading South Africa’s Leotlela, who won the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai last Saturday in 10.00 with American Trayvon Bromell rounded up the podium in 10.03 seconds as Bednarek 4th at 10.03 seconds as Akani Simbine came in 5th at 10.04 then Christian Coleman and Letsile Tebogo followed.
He clocked his first sub-10 with victory at the Addis Ababa Grand Prix in 9.98 followed by the win at Kip Keino Classic in 9.96 then Botswana Golden Grand Prix in 9.95 seconds followed by a 9.98 seconds with second finish at the Shanghai Diamond League and today’s 9.94 seconds.
In men’s 5,000m, Ethiopian Addisu Yihune claimed the title in a meeting record and world-leading time of 12:57.32 followed by Abdilaahi Mohamed in a time of 12:57.90 as Biniam Mehary rounded up the podium in the race in 12:58.51.
Edwin Kurgat was top Kenyan 13:01.47 to finish fifth with Timothy Cheruiyot coming 12th at 13:16.41.
Peruth Chemutai won her second Diamond league title after beating Kenyan Faith Cherotich in women’s 3000m Steeplechase in a world lead and meeting record time of 8:51.06 as Olympic champion Winfred Yavi came in second in a season-best time of 8:51.54 as Kenya’s Faith Cherotich rounded up the podium in 8:52.53.
