FIFA World Cup: Brazil, Paraguay and Morocco qualify into round 16

Paraguay, Morocco and Brazil progressed to the round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA World Cup that is co-hosted by Mexico, USA and Canada.

The trio joined Mexico who beat South Africa 1-0 on Sunday.

Coached by Gustavo Alfaro Paraguay stunned 2014 champions Germany in post match penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time to seal the slot in an extraordinary performance.

The winners broke the dead lock through Julio Enciso before Arsenal striker Kai Havertz leveled for Germans to force the match into extra 30 minutes that yielded not better results until spot kicks.

A win in the next round would allow Paraguay to match their best World Cup result. They reached the quarter-finals in 2010 before losing to a late goal against eventual champions Spain.

In the second match of round 32, Brazil overcame the tough scare by edging out Japan 2-1n to book their place in the last 16.

Substitute Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 90+5 minutes to seal the slot after Japan had proved to be a real deal.

Japan’s Kaishu Sano fired them into the lead with a superb 29th-minute for a 1-0 lead but Brazilian Casemiro headed home the equalizer in the 56 minute after connecting Gabriel Magalhaes cross for 1-1.

At the stroke of extra time Martinelli’s right foot shot score sealed the 2-1 victory.

In the last match, Morocco battled to the victory against Netherlands, winning in post match penalities after a 1-1 draw in both regulation and extra 30 minutes.

Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved Crysencio Summerville penalty to hand them an advantage, which Ismael Saibari converted for a 4-3 win.

The Dutch Cody Gakpo scored first for his nation in the 72nd minute for a 1-0 lead but Issa Diop leveled for a 1-1, forcing the match into extra time.
