The Kenya Premier league promotion/demotion play offs between hosts Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United recorded ugly scenes today at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
With the return leg match, which was to determine to remain in top flight football, the match ended in chaos as Sharks fans invaded the field when Mombasa was awarded a penalty.
before the ugly scenes, Sharks were leading 2-1 with an aggregate of 3-3 following similar score in Mombasa’s first leg.
The centre referee awarded Mombasa United a penalty following a corner kick, citing a shirt-pulling offense inside the box on a Mombasa player, which triggered outrage from the Sharks bench and supporters, culminating in fans breaching security and invading the pitch, rendering play impossible to resume, which was never played.
The aggregate winner was to secure a place in KPL and was scheduled to open the new season with a home fixture against Kakamega Homeboyz this Sunday
