Emerging Stars, the Kenya’s U23 men’s football team lost to Tanzania but managed to progress ito the second round of the ongoing AFCON U23 qualifiers.
Despite going down 3-1 away to Tanzania’s Kenya qualified with a slim margins, holding on for a thrilling 5-4 aggregate victory over their hosts.
Kenya progressed following a 4-1 win at home last weekend and today’s 3-1 did not affect their results as they await to play Ivory Coast.
Tanzania opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Sheikhan Khamis for 1-0 lead before Selemani Mwalimu doubled the score to 2-0, halving the aggregate to 4-3.
But Antony Kimani coached side remained in the game into halftime with Tanzania leading 2-0 and on resumption, substitute Andreas Odhiambo scored for Kenya to make 2-1 to extend Emerging Stars’ aggregate lead to 5-3 then Tanzania were awarded a penalty, with Mwalimu converting for 3-1 with his double score but Kenya managed to hold on to lead in aggregate advantage to 5-4.
