It has been 20 years since Abel Kirui begun his running journey, which he intends to hang his running spikes soon.
The double world marathon champion has hinted that he will retire from active running come 2025 after representing the country for 20 years.
Before he says bye, Kirui will be competing at the Kobe marathon set for November 17th in Jpan then compete at the Cherry Blossom 10 mile race come April 6th 2025 and Berlin marathon.
“I have been invited to compete at the Kobe marathon in Japan in November then I come to prepare for Washington 10 mile race in Jerry Blossom next year. That will open the doors for me,” said the 2016 Chicago marathon champion.
Speaking during the launch of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country championships over the weekend, Kirui said that he wants to run another marathon and see if he will compete in Berlin marathon in September and hang his spikes after compete for the last 20 years.
“I have run and brought fame to this country and a role model to others and I am not proud but I must say that I am only human to have run under 2:20 in marathons for 22 times in competitions. You think 2:10 is easy,” paused Kirui.
He continued that he wants to tell the world that once can run for many years by eating well not wasting time.
