Pan African Scrabble Championships (PANASA) president Adekoyejo ‘Ade’ Adegbesan and world Scrabble champion Wellington Jighere will be the star at this weekend’s Scrabble Kenya national tournament in Eldoret.
Adegbesan who will be unveiling the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship (AYSC) trophy both Eldoret and Juja Preparatory will be accompany Jighere to show case his board skills.
With AYSC set for August in Nigeria Ade expressed excitement about the growth of the game in Africa and the potential impact of the championship.
“We are thrilled to see the growth of Scrabble in Africa and the excitement that this championship is generating among young players. The AYSC tournament is a great opportunity for the youth of Africa to compete and learn from one another,” says Adegbesan.
Scrabble Kenya Chairman Limo Kipkemboi says that the unveiling of the AYSC trophy will mark a significant milestone for the African Scrabble, as it signifies the first-ever Africa Youth Championship.
Ade, as he is popularly called, says that the Africa Youth championship represents a major step forward for the game in Africa and provides an excellent opportunity for the youth of the continent to showcase their skills.
“With both Under 19 and Under 15 categories, the AYSC tournament promises to be an exciting event and we look forward to seeing the talent that will be on display.”
