Kenyans Margaret Agai and Reuben Kiprop Kerio set new records with victory at the 98th edition Kosice Peace Marathon held today Košice, Slovakia.
Despite her age at 34, Agai came to the race as the favourite with her personal best of 2:24.28 to win the race with a course record of 2:24:35 defending champion Ayuntu Tadesse in 2:25.00 and Bone Cheluke finishing in third place.
“I didn’t expect to set the course record. I’m pleasantly surprised by this, I don’t even know what to say,” said Agai.
In men, Kerio won the title in 2:07.16 ahead of Ethiopians was followed closely by Bantie Dessie Aychew who crossed the line in second place in a time of 2:07.19 with Mehasha Tadesse Yohans closing the podium three finishes in 2:07.19.
Ethiopia’s Kebede Gebre Adane and Daniel Kipchumba from Kenya came home in fourth and fifth place in a time of 2:07.21 and 2:07.46 respectively
