AIU hand three year ban to Kacheran

Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has banned Kenyan marathon Philemon Kacheran for three years, becoming the 20^th Kenyan to receive the ban this year.

Kacheran, who was in the marathon team ahead of Commonwealth Games was a handed a three year ban after testing positive for testosterone after he was suspended in July.

“On 12 September 2022, the athlete returned a signed admission of anti-doping rule violations… and accepted the asserted period of ineligibility,” the AIU said.

His admission saw a standard four-year ban reduced by a year.

Kacheram’s suspension is the latest in a saga that is threatening to undermine Kenya’s athletic reputation.
