Allan Oyende triumph at Nairobi Scrabble championships

Top Seed Allan Oyende started the year on a high note, commanding top spot when he claimed the Nairobi Regional Scrabble Kenya (SK) championships that came to an end today at Kasarani Sportsview Hotel.

As Wamucii Irungu won The Open Division for the second time shading off top players in the tournament.

Oyende proved his top position as he prepares to feature into Kenya team ahead of East, Central and South Africa (ECASA) Scrabble championships and 2019 World English Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) in Goa, India.

Winning 13 out of 18 rounds, Oyende cemented his top Seed position following his top position last year following his six wins out of 12 tournaments he played.

The ever green player brought down the curtain with a win of +1475 and will be the key player in the Word Warrior-The national team for the two championships.

“To win in scrabble, you have to sweat. There’s no way around it. But I look forward to an even better performance this year.” said the champ. 

He won the title in the last game which was open for Patrick Litunya and Bernard Amuke but Oyende edged out teammate and current chairman Bernard Amuke into third place with 12.5 +676, with Litunya of Machakos County taking second position with 13 wins +435.

Irungu won the title for the second time ahead of Moses Ngugi of NIC Bank in the second position with Kelly Mbugua of Kiambu County emerging 3rd.

The best students were Tevin Ananda of Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and Precious Omondi of Kenyatta University (KU).

The next action now shifts to Kisumu County on 9th and 10th February.
