Alunga fires into Manchester Salver victory in Eldoret

Ugandan Michael Alunga fired two under par 140 gross to win the Manchester Salver, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series played on par 71 Eldoret Golf club.
Alunga fired identical one under par par in day one and day in the 36 hole tournament on the nine hole course, registering his third win in the series ahead of Magical Kenya Open golf championships next year.
He said playing in Kenya has been good for him with an appetite to win more on Kenyan soil in the coming events and secure “Kenya One” title at the end of the series.
“I have become more of Kenyan than Ugandan and playing in Kenya has given me much expreince that I did not expect. There is too much golf in Kenya and very competitive. I always feel nice playing with them,” said Alunga.
This was his third win after beating Kenyans at the Tea Field Trophy in Kericho on October 2nd when he fired five over par 149 for the title. Earlier on, he had won the inaugural Vasco Da Gama Cup at par 72 Malindi golf club with two over par 146.
Alunga completed day one on joint lead with Eldoretr caddie Robert Khayeka Kisia as well as Joseph Gathumbi from Kenya Railways with one under par 70.
Come day two, Alunga maintained his pace to play level as Gathumbi played two over par 73 to remain second on one over par 143 as junior player Danny Chelogoi completed the podium with two over. Chelogoi was the best player in the second day when he fired level par 71.
“In the first nine it was tricky because my game was not coming but eventually it came back, I was struggling too much with my putting where I managed to fire bogeys and 7 pars with the rest birdies,” said Alunga.
He said that he was not worried to get the bogeys it was just a score that he would make the cut to the top.
“Today’s (Sunday) game was fine I was calm with many birdies and my game was consistent compared to yesterday when I had many birdies with very bad bogeys,” he said.
“This is my third win in Kenya after Malindi’s Vasco Da Gama and Kericho’s Tea Field and now this,” said Alunga as he is focused to play at the Kiambu Open in search of more points
