Sports cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed today flagged off relief food that will benefit over 60 vulnerable athletes in Eldoret and its environs.
In this coronavirus pandemic, Amina said the food will benefit athletes in the region that were donated by the Ministry of Sports in conjunction with its partners that includes world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge.
Amina flagged off the foodstuffs at Nyayo National Stadium saying that the youthful athletes were to compete at the postponed World U20 championships in Nairobi in July.
She accompanied by her Principal Secretary Paul Okudo said the athletes will further receive financial support possibly on Friday to help them navigate through the month.
“Through our partnership with Kipchoge, Kipchoge managed to identify 58 athletes who are in dire need of support,” she said.
She added that the athletes were fully identified as the needy ones who mostly were supposed to compete in the U20.
She added that Amina a a minimum monthly allowance of Ksh 10,000 will be send to each athlete and appealed to well wishers to support their plan to cushion sportsmen.
