Amos Butit claim Kenya Pipeline crown in Eldoret

Amos Butit recovered from a first hole blank to win the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) golf tournament that teed off at the nine hole Eldoret golf club.

Playing on home club, Butit last won any title four years ago carded 40 stable ford points for the title and the win was good for the man, beating other 80 golfers on the course.

He said it was his second win in the career after four years, coincidentally it was also sponsored by KPC, which he says wasn’t easy.

“I don’t know what coincidence it has been that I last won the KPC match and today, four years down the lane, I won the same title. I played well due to my good preparations. I practiced a number of days on the course of the week which I made sure I played three to four times before Saturday. I was in the right mood today,” said Bitit.

Playing handicap 13, Butit started off with a blank in hole one par 5, dropped one in two, three and four recovered with a birdie on 5, 6, and 7 before he bogeyed in 8th and 9th for a total of 19 points in the inward nine.

He added that he played alongside good team that consisted former Elgeyo Marakwet Sports minister Anita Kimwatan, Mary kiptoo and Wesley kipkosgei.

“I was so motivated with such great team. It was so good that we enjoyed the whole tournament,” he added.

He added that the only challenge was that they played early in the morning with morning dew which made the greens to be slow.

“I had a slow that in the morning but the recovery was good where I managed 21 points,” he said.

On the second nine, Butit fired two birdies, three pars and five bogeys.

Former club’s lady captain Jane Koech won the staff’s prize on 32 points as former chairman Sandeep Grewal was the nearest to the pin prize with Mildred Natecho and Parit Sangrajka were longest drive women and men winners respectively.

Butit beat Nandi Bear’s J. kiplimo and Johnson Korir with a point to 39 for top positions.
