Top athletes will this Thursday stage an anti doping campaign in Kapsabet, Nandi County as a way of bringing sanity in the sport after Kenya was put on the watch list by World Anti Doping Agency and International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
In the Anti Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) meeting, double 800m Olympic champion David Rudisha, former 800m champion Janeth Jepkosgey and 2016 Chicago marathon winner Abel Kirui are among the world known runners who will be leading the campaign in the ‘Source of Champions’ county.
Nandi A.K leaders led by Secretary Kennedy Tanui said the athletes had confirmed their participation to tame the vice among runners.
This event follows athletes’ federation that will take the campaign to all counties of the republic to sensitize individuals on the dangers of using banned substances in competitions.
Tanui said they will hold an anti doping campaign walk within Kapsabet town, through various streets culminating at Nandi County headquarters.
Tanui said the move is aimed at sensitising athletes on the doping dangers and consequences.
“Anti-doping education to athletes is very important. This will equip them with knowledge on the matter and will help in addressing such issues.
Many a time we have been advising athletes to seek consultation before seeking for self treatment for headache and other medication,” said Tanui.
He called upon athletes to attend the event saying it was very salient in showing solidarity the fight against doping.
“We will have top AK officials led by the boss Jack Tuwei and an official from Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya. It is good that athletes attend the event,” Tanui said.
