Anyona, Akinyi and Kusa storm to semis as Okoth, Mugunde and Denga are out

Stacy Anyona, Everlyn Akinyi and Lorna Kusa stormed into the semifinals of the ongoing Zone 3 Boxing championships in Kinshasa, Congo that has been marred with controversy.

While Kenya’s Victor Odhiambo was the only winner while Captain Nick Okoth, Boniface Mugunde and Francis Denga fell by the wayside.

Ayoma was a handed a walk-over in her final lightweight bout against Jocelyn Tshamala of DRC as welterweight Akinyi beat DRC’s Luta Kennedy 5-0 victory with light-middle Kusa was 3-2 winner over DRC’s Mauwa Bwanamoya.

In men, Odhiambo shone in Kenyan squad by beating Conga Brazzaville man 3-2 points win over Malonga Dival.

But it was bad day for other Kenyans line Okoth lost 4-1 to Cameroonian Sangue Alain in the lightweight while light-middle boxer Mugunde lost 5-0 by DRC’s Steve Kulenguluka and light-heavy Denga was beaten 4-1 by DRC’s Peter Kabeji.

The Kenyan Team has complained subjected to blatant infringement of technical and competition rules that saw Kenyan minimum weight pugilist Christine Ongare robbed of clear victory in broad daylight.

Three judges returned a verdict that declared Ongare’s opponent Nyembo Gisele triumphant before the organisers rescinded the decision in the heat of a bitter protest lodged by Team Kenya.
