At least kshs 10,000 will be good for athletes- Tanui

With the government set to provide Kenyan sportsmen and women with some cash to support their lives during this coronavirus pandemic, two time Boston Marathon champion Moses Tanui has come up with a suggestion.

As a former athlete, he is proposed that kshs 10,000 per month will be good for the athletes who heavily depend on running and have no other means.

Tanui said following the announcement by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the state address ordering Sports fund to provide kshs 100 million to musicians to entertain Kenyans who are at home.

Latter on, sports cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed assured the athletes that the government will give something to sportsmen and owmen in the country.

“The government should support these athletes who have been the super power in terms of sports is a concern in this country, flying Kenyan flag high,” said Tanui, the former 10,000m world silver medalist.

He added that there should be minimal support for athletes because they have conducting their training in sponsored camps that have now closed and the majority of them are training individually which could be quite expensive to them as well as managing their families.

“At least kshs 10,000 should be given unto them monthly because they are many across the country,” added the two time Vienna marathon winner.
