Athletics Kenya has banned two athletes from Central Rift from competing at the Saturday’s National cross country championships cum national trials ahead of world cross country championships in Aarhus, Denmark.
The duo competed at the central Rift 6km junior women but according to the officials, they had passed the limit age to compete in the under 20 category.
the insider said the duo were born in 1999, with such they are not eligible to compete in the under 20.
He blamed coaches for lying to athletes that they can compete yet their age can’t allow.
“We are urging coaches to provide good advice to athletes. Now they have to pay the price of coaches lies. Them being ignorant is not a defence and they will not compete,” said the official.
Those who will compete for the region include reigning world under 18 800m silver medalist Lydia Jeruto, Betty Jepkemboi, Roselinda Jepketer, Emmerculate Jepkirui, Juddy Kepkoech and Cynthia Nalare.
