Beatrice Chebet sets 5km world record at Cursa dels Nassos

Reigning world cross country champion Beatrice Chebet set the 5km world record in today’s Cursa dels Nassos road race in Barcelona, Spain.

The Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion set the world record at 14:13 to smash the women’s world 5km record by lowering Ethiopian Senbere Teferi’s 14:29 set at the Herzogenaurach in 2021to end the year on a high note.

The record is also faster in the mixed race of 14:19 being held by Ethiopia’s Ejegayehu Taye set at the same venue in 2021 who finished second by clocking 14:21, while Kenya’s Lilian Kasait Rengeruk was third in 14:25 for the podium.

Uganda’s Joy Cheptoyek was also inside that mark, finishing fourth in 14:27.
