Fresh from winning gold in the 10,000m, double Olympic Games and World cross country champion Beatrice Chebet stunned Faith Kipyegon to win the 5,000m title at the penultimate day of World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Just like at the Paris Olympics Chebet won both the 5,000m after outstaging Kipyegon for gold and it was a replica of today’s event.
She won the second gold for the Kenya and 5th for the country when she clocked 14:54.36, with Kipyegon who timed 14:55.07 to settle for silver to add on her 1,500m gold she won on Monday.
Italian Nadia Battocletti bagged bronze after clocking 14:55.42 to finish third.
Chebet won the 5th gold after Peres Jepchirchir in marathon, Beatrice Chebet in 10,000m and 5,000m, Faith Kipyegon in 1,500m and Faith Cherotich in the 3,000m steeplechase .
Silver were won by Kipyegon in the 5,000m and Dorcas Ewoi in the 1,500m while bronze was won Edmund Serem in the 3,000m steeplechase
