Athletics lovers in North Rift region will have a chance to watch the Berlin Marathon for free courtesy of Bank of Africa, in collaboration with Isuzu Kenya and Clique Hotel in Eldoret.
This comes at a time when top Kenyan marathoners led by former world marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang will take on reigning Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge, reigning Berlin marathon champion Kenenisa Bekele, 2009 champion Emmanuel Mutai, Stanley Biwott among others on Sunday in the Germany Capital.
Bank of Africa which has been giving free viewership to athletics fans in Eldoret, Iten and Kapsabet for all World Marathon Majors meetings free viewership in various hotels, will this weekend stage the viewership at Clique Hotel located along Eldoret-Nairobi highway dubbed Viewthon.
The Berlin course is seen as a place where world records have been set with four Kenyans- Paul Tergat (2003), Patrick Makau (2011), Wilson Kipsang (2013) and Dennis Kimetto (2014)- set their world records while Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie had a back to back world record in 2007 and 2007.
Eldoret Bank of Africa Branch manager Jeremiah Kayago has urged fans to turn up in large numbers to watch the marathon which has many Kenyan athletes.
“We are preparing to watch the Berlin marathon on Sunday and I want to urge many athletic lovers to turn up in large numbers to watch how Kenyan tackles the Berlin course,” said Kayago in his office.
With such top elite athletes on the course, the world is expecting the record that was set by Kimetto in 2014 at 2:02.57 to come down.
